Every year at the end of January and the beginning of February, I get a little case of the winter blues. The days are short and cold (in this case really damn cold). I am busy at work but I wish I wasn’t. I hate all of the clothes in my closet. It seems like a lot of work to make it downtown to meet up with friends for drinks or dinner. (Hello, snow.) And all I want to eat is macaroni and cheese–American style–and read books curled up on my couch with a cup of tea.
These three days of “snow vacation” (which I would like to add are a vacation for the students while I’m still working) haven’t really helped matters. Sure I’ve gotten some serious work done but the whole thing has been rather mind numbing–sit in a large rather cold room at your desk and work by yourself (without the benefit of Onda I might add). So I’ve listened to tons of NPR, both news and music programing, and I’ve plugged away at things.
Today’s the last day of the snow vacation. Hip-hip-houray! And tomorrow I’ve got two days of weekend in front of me. I think it’s high time I did some exploring in the city center. Maybe I’ll start with a cupcake and go from there.
